I’m mainly interested in the iWifi unit because wifi shields you can buy are ludicrously expensive, and I’m interested in using custom iPhone apps to interface to Arduino projects to offload some of the processing and make use of its nice screen. This may be a bit fidgety, and I certainly haven’t done it, but in principle you should be able to control the chip from an Arduino. This is usually the case because the serial port is used for testing in the factory. CSR are market leaders with their BC chips, and they are in all sorts of devices mobile phones, lego mindstorms , which is why they support both USB and serial interfaces. The iPhone can only be interfaced to through wifi. Have a look around for lwBT from the Mulle wireless sensor node project.

Dunno if this is still relevant but I came across this. It’s not being actively developed afaik, but it’s designed for MCUs. I see that it has some UART pins. My mind is nearly exploding with ideas. I have tried 3rd party software but due to the driver problem, it never works. So recently I have been trying various things to bluehooth Bluetooth to work. I’ve ordered another one for testing, if it won’t have the BC chip i’ll just swap them.
